Improved handling and safety for Alfa Romeo 159/Brera/Spider
Suspension bushes are some of the most highly stressed components fitted to a motorcar. They undergo enormous strains and in the most arduous of conditions with no maintenance or lubrication.
Standard factory bushes are manufactured from a rubber compound containing natural products, which deteriorate with age.
It becomes softer and more pliable, resisting the forces placed on it less and less. Therefore allowing more and more movement of suspension components and offering less and less control over the suspension geometry.
This in turn causes accelerated tyre wear, braking instability and poor handling.
Alfa 159/Brera/Spider Suspension problems
One common complaint about Alfa 159/Brere/Spider are front geometry issues which can cause premature and excessive wear on the tires along with handling issues. The standard front suspension has no adjustment and therfore it appeared to be a problem that owners were stuck with....until now!
To tackle this, Powerflex have produced some adjustable front upper arm bushes, PFF1-505G (SKU 52657) and PFF1-506G (SKU 52658), giving on car camber and caster adjustment. This allows the geometry settings to be optimized therefore providing a solution to the aforementioned problems.
The part number PFF1-502 (SKU 52656) replaces the front lower arm rear bush to further improve handling and stability.
During the development and testing process, the geometry was adjusted and optimised using a Beissbarth 4-wheel alignment system.
The results were very impressive. The erratic/excessive angles found on the standard cars can now be reset to the operators preferred set up, improving the handling and reducing some of the excessive angles which was causing the tyre wear.
Your car will benefit from the Powerflex bushes because of the more effective control of the suspension components to a much greater extent than standard rubber items.
By correctly engineering the polyurethane compound, bushes can be made 25-30% stiffer than new rubber items but with exactly the same noise absorbing properties.
